Our Story
Our founder Isabella Esquivel, won the last drag race of the night at the iconic gay bar, The Purple Monkey, and is driven to continue to raise awareness about the various forms of discrimination against the LGBT community. Her victories also resulted in the launch of the first transgender and/or non-binary specific drag race on Sept. 19, 2017, at The Purple Monkey’s 4th anniversary show.
Isabella E. Rodriguez started as a fashion stylist at an upscale boutique in downtown Los Angeles, with the mission of “empowering and educating” the LGBTQ community. She created and modeled the Drag Race of the Week fashion shows, which led to the formation of Beauty Queens Beauty Bar in Beverly Hills, where Isabella worked for five years, as its co-owner and Creative Director. As a trans woman, Isabella was frustrated by the lack of opportunities in the beauty industry to showcase the full potential of trans woman. With the goal of providing the community with a safe and welcoming environment, she founded Beauty Queens Beauty Bar in 2011.
Beauty Queens Beauty Bar is also the home to a weekly drag show with both trans and non-binary performers showcasing their unique and powerful talent in the beauty industry.
Together with her sister, she recently started Make The Mark to empower and educate transgender women. Make the Mark focuses on improving the lives of transgender women through free HIV testing, free access to trans-specific health care, legal workshops, employment support and education.
